Smoothness Appearance Replicas
The six plastic replicas are each mounted on a black plastic backing and
packaged in a hard storage case. The replicas are used to visually evaluate
the smoothness appearance of fabrics after repeated home laundering. The
replicas represent grades of 1, 2, 3, 3.5, 4 and 5 with 5 being the
smoothest and 1 being the most wrinkled in appearance. The replicas are
designed for use with AATCC Test Method
124, Appearance of Fabrics after Repeated Home Laundering and AATCC Test Method
143, Appearance of Apparel and Other Textile End Products after Repeated
Home Laundering. Any washable fabric or textile product can be
evaluated for smoothness appearance. Fabrics of any construction, such as
woven, knit and nonwovens can be evaluated. The test methods allow the
observers to assign the numerical grade of the replica which most nearly
matches the smoothness appearance of the test specimen, or assign a grade
midway between those whole-number standards which have no half-number
