AATCC EP7 - 2021e , Instrumental assessment of the Change in Color of a Test Specimen
1. Scope
1.1 This evaluation procedure is intended as an alternative to the visual method of AATCC EP1. It is applicable to any test method referring to gray scales except those which involve treatment with solutions containing fluorescent whitening agents (FWA).
2. Principle
2.1 The color of the specimen which has been submitted to the colorfastness test and the color of an identical untreated specimen are measured instrumentally. The CIELAB coordinates for lightness L*, chroma C*ab, and hue hab are determined for both specimens as defined in CIE 015:2018 (see 3.1.3). The CIELAB differences L*, C*ab, and H*ab are calculated and converted to a gray scale grade by means of a series of equations.
1.1 This evaluation procedure is intended as an alternative to the visual method of Evaluation Procedure 1, Gray Scale for Color Change, for assessing the change in color of a test specimen. It is applicable to any test method referring to Gray Scale except those which involve treatment with solutions containing fluorescent whitening agents (FWA).
